New alignment for USJ1 traffic dispersal plan

AFTER plans for a flyover to allow motorists to exit USJ1 via Persiaran Subang Permai were cancelled, Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim has said that a new alignment would be necessary.

“The presence of the LRT in the area necessitates a new alignment as there is insufficient space to pass underneath the LRT line.

“Constructing a route beneath the LRT line is not feasible and building a flyover will result in an impractically high structure.

“A new study must be undertaken, as the previous plans are no longer applicable,” he said.

He was speaking at a press conference after the Subang Jaya City Council’s (MBSJ) full board meeting.

Amirul Azizan had previously said the flyover cost had skyrocketed by RM19mil because of the discovery of underground utilities.

He said the engineering department was in the process of relocating all construction materials to ensure the area was safe for motorists.

The notice of project termination was issued last August.

“We have to reassess the situation. After clearing the construction materials, the engineering department will need to conduct a more detailed study.

“This includes mapping both above and below the ground, as well as designing a new alignment,” said the mayor.

According to reports, the multi-million-ringgit flyover structure was part of a RM51.5mil traffic dispersal project by MBSJ.

The flyover was to facilitate motorists coming from the Persiaran Subang Permai intersection to bypass traffic lights at the Persiaran Kewajipan intersection and head to the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) and Federal Highway.

Amirul Azizan said alternative routes would be opened in July in the interim.

To alleviate the traffic situation, two roads will be opened near the SJ7 project by Sime Darby, connecting Persiaran Subang and Persiaran Kewajipan.

This will allow motorists from Persiaran Subang to exit via the SJ7 project directly to Persiaran Kewajipan without having to use Persiaran Subang Permai.

On dengue, MBSJ reported 580 positive cases as of epidemic week eight of 2025.

This is a 75% decrease compared to the cumulative cases in the same week of 2024, which recorded 2,318 cases.
