Four public flats in Melaka’s Kesidang state constituency now have new pump systems, drainage and roofing, thanks to a RM1mil allocation.
Kesidang assemblyman Allex Seah Shoo Chin said upgrades were made to three flats under the administration of Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) and one flat under the administration of Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB).
Seah, who is state entrepreneur, cooperatives development and consumer affairs committee chairman, said all four flats, which were over 30 years old, were upgraded using an allocation by the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) under the Malaysian Housing Maintenance Fund.
“We received a RM150,000 allocation from the ministry to replace the existing pump system at Rumah Pangsa Taman Merdeka, which has nine blocks with 300 homes.
“In addition, we also received an allocation of RM500,000 to replace the roof in one of the blocks at Rumah Pegaga.
“We are also replacing all the pipes in one of the blocks at Rumah Pangsa Malim Jaya involving an allocation of RM150,000,” he told Bernama at Madrasah Al-Jariah, Taman Melaka Baru 3.
Seah said work to upgrade the pump and the reticulation system would also be implemented at Rumah Pangsa Taman Cheng Mutiara using an allocation of RM120,000.
He added that over 10 sports facilities in the Kesidang constituency had been upgraded including fields in Taman Datuk Thamby Chik Karim and Taman Merdeka Jaya.
Earlier, Seah said at total of 57 programmes would be held until June 13 involving various government agencies and departments as well as non-governmental organisations under the Kesidang Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) initiative.
“The programmes include presentation of awards to 100 best students from 12 schools in the Kesidang constituency.
“Free health checks will also be organised at the Kesidang Constituency Development and Coordination Committee (Japerun) office on June 11, while programmes involving local entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial agencies and banks will be held at Malim Uptown on June 13 and 14,” added Seah.
Meanwhile, Bernama also reported that MPHTJ was offering discounts of up to 80% on selected compounds.
Its president Datuk Sapiah Haron said residents could settle their compounds at the Kesidang Japerun office until June 12 and SK Taman Merdeka on June 13.
“The initiative is aimed at encouraging the public to settle outstanding compounds, including parking offences, through MPHTJ’s mobile payment counter at WRUR programme venues,” she told reporters at the madrasah.
Sapiah said the discount offer would not apply to compounds related to earthworks, operations, compounds with summons status or court action cases.
Separately, she said MPHTJ was allocating RM40,000 monthly for tree cutting and pruning works within its administrative area in the constituency to maintain the area’s cleanliness and landscape while ensuring the safety of residents.
Sapiah added that the council would also organise a large-scale community clean-up event at Taman Merdeka on June 13.
