Over 100,000 visitors flock to Zoo Johor after dark


ZOO Johor’s night experience has drawn over 100,000 visitors in the first two months since its launch.

Caretaker state housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the zoo generated about RM1.3mil from ticket sales between March 27 and May 31.

“Since the introduction of the night zoo on March 27, Zoo Johor has been receiving between 3,500 and 6,000 visitors daily.

“This is a significant increase from 1,000 to 1,500 daily visitors before the launch of the night zoo,” he said in an interview.

Mohd Jafni added that the zoo recorded a total of 176,076 visitors between March 27 and May 31, including 105,481 from the night-time session.

“The highest record was on May 31.

“The night zoo received 10,472 visitors, including 412 foreigners, in just one night, earning RM81,105 from ticket sales.

“Previously, the highest record was on May 2 when the night zoo received 9,474 visitors in just one night,” he said.

The night zoo, featuring more than 35 animal species, operates from 8pm to 11pm every Friday to Sunday.

The last entry is at 10pm.

Tickets are priced at RM10 for Malaysian adults and RM5 for children aged five and above.

Malaysian senior citizens aged 60 and above pay RM5.

Entry to the zoo at Jalan Gertak Merah, Johor Baru is free for children below five and people with disabilities.

Tickets for foreign visitors are priced at RM30 each.
