IN 2028, SJK (C) Lee Min in Port Klang, Selangor is expected to move from its current flood-prone area of Kampung Telok Gong to Bandar Bestari, Klang.

School relocation committee chairman Datuk Seri Jason Lee said a 2ha site, which is 3km from the 81-year-old school’s current location, has been approved.

“The school has seen downpours each year since 2017.

“The worst deluge was in 2021, when the furniture was damaged badly,” he said.

Lee said the partially aided school would need more than RM18mil for the relocation.

“Our school in Telok Gong has 100 pupils and 16 teachers, while the preschool has 31 children,” he said.

Lee added it would be a challenging task to raise funds for the school’s new buildings.

“We will need RM8mil to start the construction of classrooms by the end of the year.

“We hope to get the support of the community and businesses.”

Lee said the current single-storey school structure in Telok Gong was no longer suitable.

He said the school was located in an industrial zone with heavy traffic.

“As we make efforts to raise funds for the new building, we are also focused on obtaining approval for the new school building plans from the Education Ministry and Klang Royal City Council (MBDK).”

Lee said the committee hoped to have the buildings built by the end of 2027.
