Pasir Gudang Highway is frequently used by heavy vehicles.
A SPECIAL task force has been formed to address road issues along Pasir Gudang Highway, says Johor executive councillor Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh.
The state works, transportation and infrastructure committee chairman said the task force was set up earlier this year in response to complaints from the public about the highway.
“We established the Zero Complaint Task Force on Jan 1 to address the many complaints about Pasir Gudang Highway, particularly potholes.
“Potholes are the most common complaint, especially during the rainy season.
“This is a major problem that has affected many road users.
“We will also bring the matter to the attention of the Works Minister,” he said.
He added that one of the main causes of potholes was the frequent use of the highway by heavy vehicles, including those involved in the ongoing upgrading project for Pasir Gudang Highway.
“Since the formation of the task force, we have seen a drop in the number of complaints but we are still working towards achieving our zero-complaint target.
“Apart from addressing each complaint, we also have officers from the Public Works Department (JKR) monitoring the area almost every day,” he said.
Mohamad Fazli added that besides potholes and other road issues, the task force also looks into matters such as street lighting and drainage systems.
“The task force will continue to monitor the area closely and take action to resolve complaints,” he said.
Meanwhile, on an unrelated matter, Mohamad Fazli said complaints regarding congestion at the Causeway and Second Link have decreased in recent months.
“Despite the shift to a Saturday-Sunday weekend, there seem to be fewer complaints about congestion.
“There were one or two complaints recently during the rainy season but they are not as frequent as before.
“However, I am monitoring the situation closely, including checking social media groups that focus on issues at our land borders,” he said.
