SIX roads in Setapak have been repaved by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) just in time for Chinese New Year.
The roads are Jalan Semarak Api, Jalan Haji Palil, Jalan Chong Hwa, Jalan Langkawi, Jalan Kampung Haji Idris and Jalan Kempas.
DBKL Advisory Board member Andre Lai said the timely resurfacing of the previously pothole-riddled roads was a great relief for nearby residents.
“These roads are the access routes to surrounding neighbourhoods.
“In fact, the proposal to resurface Jalan Chong Hwa and Jalan Langkawi was raised as early as 2020 but due to several ongoing utility works on the road, the resurfacing plans were put on hold until the end of last year.
“The resurfacing works at Jalan Langkawi was the longest, covering 900m, while the others were between 200m and 300m,” he said during a press conference held at Jalan Chong Hwa.
He said the resurfacing works cost about RM300,000.
“It also included the installation of roadside railings along Jalan Chong Hwa for the safety of pedestrians,” he added.
StarMetro reported in December last year that Jalan Langkawi would be upgraded following complaints.
Jalan Langkawi resident Frederick Fong, 22, said the road had been in a state of disrepair due to heavy vehicles plying the area.
“It was very difficult to travel along the road. After the upgrade, residents can enjoy a smoother drive.
“The roadside railings also improve safety,” he said, adding that pedestrians no longer had to fear having their belongings grabbed by snatchthefts.
Courier Mohamad Kamarul Azrin, 33, said the potholes on Jalan Langkawi used to be a hazard for motorcyclists.
“We could not see the potholes whenever it rained.
“The upgrade definitely makes the journey safer and smoother,” he said.
