Rumah Sri Kenangan (RSK) in Sibu, Sarawak, will undergo another renovation as the current condition is not suitable for the elderly residents.

Sarawak Women, Early Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the residents would be temporarily relocated to the RSK in Kuching.

Speaking during the Majlis Sejambat Kasih event, she said the ministry would inform family members and relatives of the exact date.

Once the residents have been moved, those who wish to visit their elderly family members or relatives may do so at the Kuching facility, Fatimah said.

“After the repair and upgrading works are completed, residents will be moved back to RSK Sibu,” she added.

RSK Sibu hosts 25 senior folks and can accommodate up to 50 residents.

Built in 1981, RSK Sibu underwent a RM15.8mil renovation involving the construction of a hall, administrative block and hostel.

The renovation was completed in July 2022.

At the event, Fatimah distributed Chinese New Year goodies to about 100 recipients.

She said 1,708 needy individuals in the Sibu division which covers Sibu district, Kanowit and Selangau, had been selected as beneficiaries.

They each received RM100 cash and a hamper worth RM80, she said

“This contribution is to lighten the burdens of recipients celebrating Chinese New Year.”
