THE decades-long wait for permanent housing for over 400 families of former estate workers will soon be over with handover of Ampar Tenang People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Dengkil, Selangor, to the National Housing Department.

The project, which was previously under Housing and Local Government Ministry’s (KPKT) housing planning division, marks a significant milestone for residents living in temporary accommodation in Taman Permata, Dengkil.

Deputy Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu shared the good news during her visit to the site.

“Today, we officially hand over Ampar Tenang PPR project, developed on land previously owned by Sime Darby Sdn Bhd, for workers from Ladang Perang Besar, Medingly, Galloway and Sedgley estates,” Bernama reported her as saying.

Present were the ministry’s deputy secretary-general (Housing and Community Wellbeing) Suhaimi Ali@Ahmad and National Housing Department director-general Datuk Jayaselan K. Navaratnam.

Aiman Athirah, who is also Sepang MP, said the process of handing over keys to the homeowners would be completed by the end of the year.

“The National Housing Department will oversee the key handover process.

“We aim to ensure all residents can move into their new homes this year,” she added.

The project comprises single-storey terrace houses with a built-up area of 750sq ft, including four units designed for persons with disabilities.

Construction began on Aug 1, 2017, and the development received its Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) on Dec 31, 2024.

Funded through an RM88mil allocation from the PPR Trust Fund, the housing project is equipped with a community hall and playground.

“Buyers only need to pay RM20,000, with the remaining RM50,000 subsidised by the government,” said Aiman Athirah.

The Ampar Tenang PPR project represents a collaborative effort between the Federal and Selangor governments, facilitated through acquisition of 12.14ha of land from Sime Darby.

A total of 404 families were relocated to Dengkil in 2002 to make way for the development of Putrajaya.
