Highlighting the environment through photo competition

Photographic Society of Johore (PSJ) organised a photo competition to spotlight the importance of caring for the environment.

PSJ president Pang King Huat explained how the association, with support from a local recycling company, organised the Malaysia Environmental Photography Challenge 2024.

“This was the 11th year that PSJ held a competition for both professional and amateur photographers,” he said.

“It was also the third time that we worked closely with the recycling company to hold the contest.

“A total of 16 photographers, including those from outside Johor, participated in the challenge,” he added.

Pang said this year’s contest theme on sustainability and protecting the future was chosen based on the aim of creating environmental awareness.

“We gave participants three months to take pictures in line with our theme.

“We received so many good and beautiful entries.

“Our judges found it hard to pick the top three photos as all of this year’s entrants submitted top quality images,” he said.

Pang said the contest also served as a platform to attract new photographers.

“PSJ will continue holding similar competitions to attract new generations of photographers to display their skills and creativity,” he said.

Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon, who was at the prize-giving event, congratulated the organisers for their initiative.

“With environmental sustainability as the theme, photographers can create awareness not only among themselves but more importantly, among the public too,” he said.

“This is in line with the state government’s vision of having a sustainable future for the environment, even with development taking place,” Ling added.
