THE Penang International Science Fair (PISF) at Setia SPICE Arena transformed learning into an exciting adventure, drawing thousands of visitors eager to explore the vast world of technology and innovation.

Organised by Penang Science Cluster (PSC) for the 12th year, the fair themed “Inspiring Innovation Everywhere (In The Age of AI)” provided an unforgettable experience packed with engaging workshops, thrilling competitions and captivating showcases.

It drew support from 71 companies, organisations and institutions, with workshop slots offering attendees of all ages a chance to delve into hands-on learning.

Engineer Eio Woei Chyuan and his 10-year-old daughter Eio Zi Ling from Butterworth were among those who visited the fair.

“Being in this industry, I fully understand the importance of STEM education, but opportunities to try things hands-on at home are limited.

“Most of the exhibits are relevant in today’s tech-driven world,” he said.

For secondary school teacher Wan Nizwani Noordin it was her family’s first visit to the fair.

Accompanied by her daughters Zara Sofia, 10, and Zarith Medina, seven, she said it was a valuable experience exposing children to technology.

“My daughters usually spend time drawing or playing, but this fair broadens their horizons and shows them how science and technology are part of everyday life. It’s an eye-opening experience,” she said.

Engineer Lai Yau Kok, who spent hours exploring the booths with his sons Lai Yen Zen, 10, and Lai Yen Jer, seven, praised the event as an excellent opportunity for family bonding and learning.

“It’s great to engage with the kids and expose them to technological advancements early on.

“It helps build logical thinking and prepares them for the future,” Lai said.

Among the fair’s highlights was Keysight Technologies’ booth, where participants learned to build electronic kits which they could take home.

The company’s design and engineering manager Chia Aik Shuen said the workshops served as an opportunity for children to use industry-grade tools like oscilloscopes while learning to troubleshoot circuits.

“We simplified the concepts and provided clear instructions to make it accessible and fun,” Chia said.

At the Motorola Solutions booth, visitors experienced cutting-edge communication technology firsthand.

Its programme manager Heng Khay Loon said students also explored noise-cancelling walkie-talkies and operated police sirens.

“We simulated real-world scenarios, allowing them to see how technology enhances communication.

“It also gave them a taste of assembly-line work by building basic electronic systems,” he said.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who launched the event, underscored the importance of nurturing talent to drive growth.

“Over the past 52 years, Penang has transformed into a global hub for manufacturing and technology, significantly contributing to Malaysia’s industrial growth.

“To remain competitive, we must embrace high-value activities and groundbreaking product innovation,” he said.

Chow added that PISF inspired visitors to dream big, innovate, and prepare for a future shaped by artificial intelligence and technological advancements.
