Sibu school expansion going well, may be completed early

Expansion work at a school in Kampung Temu, Sibu, is ahead of schedule, says Sarawak Infrastructure and Port Development Deputy Minister Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.

If the current momentum continued, he said, the SK Kampung Bahagia Jaya project could be completed earlier than expected.

“The project involves adding one classroom block with six rooms to accommodate the large number of pupils.

“So far, the project is about 1.39% ahead of schedule,” he said at the project site.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Education, Innovation and Talent Development Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said the project was timely.

“The school has been here for quite some time and the population has grown.

“This was once a small village with no development around.

“It has expanded significantly, so it is time that we have an extension for the school.

“If it can be completed ahead of schedule, that would be excellent, as the school is already somewhat cramped,” he said.

Dr Annuar emphasised that the building specifications took into account soil conditions to prevent issues such as sinking.

“We are aware that the soil condition in Kampung Teku is not very good and that is something beyond our control.

“But hopefully, things will improve after this project,” he added.

Work on the project started in July this year and it was slated for completion in 22 months.
