VINTAGE car owners and enthusiasts keen to raise awareness of men’s health were among thousands around the world who took part in the Distinguished Gentleman’s Drive (DGD).
In its fourth consecutive edition, this year’s event saw participants from 59 countries dress dapper before getting behind the wheel on the same Sunday.
The motoring fundraiser brought together classic cars built 40 or more years ago in a global celebration of motoring style and destination drives.
Organised by Doplohtiga Event Management, the Malaysian drive saw around 75 drivers in classic and vintage cars take part in a 34km drive that started at 9am from Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Kuala Lumpur.
Drivers cruised through the city before converging at Malaysia Tourism Centre (Matic) in Jalan Ampang in downtown Kuala Lumpur, around noon.
The drive took them on Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Elevated Expressway (Suke), Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (Akleh), Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ampang and roads around KLCC, among others.
Some of the activities held at Matic included a showcase of classic cars and tournaments for drift- and mini-karts.
An awareness talk on prostate cancer and men’s mental health was also held by National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM).
Proceeds raised from the event will be reinvested, in partnership with NCSM, in research and programmes for prostate cancer and men’s mental health.
