Decked in Jalur Gemilang colours, students and staff of the Management and Science University (MSU) took part in a “Jiwa Merdeka” walk.
The 6,700-step walk was a tribute to the 67th anniversary of Malaysia’s independence.
The walk kicked off the university’s MyDay ceremony that was organised by the Students and Career Development team.
It recorded over 1,800 participants from 66 departments of all the university’s faculties and schools.
Also joining the event were staff from supporting departments, Yayasan MSU, MSU College Shah Alam and MSU Medical Centre.
Celebrating the theme of “MSU Jiwa Merdeka”, this year’s event included MSU alumni members for the first time.
Coming from several civil service organisations and subsidiaries, their participation symbolised MSU’s strong links with the wider community and national interests.
MSU president Prof Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid unfurled the Jalur Gemilang presented by flag bearer Joanne Ng Zi Chen, who is the MSU’s student representative council 2024/2025 president.
Ng was accompanied by a platoon commander, also from the MSU alumni.
A rich tapestry of culture and experiences was then presented by the student body through performances.
Cheers rang out and national flags were waved following every rendition.
This further fostered a sense of patriotism among audience gathered at the campus’ U-Square.
Leading the Rukun Negara oath was Captain Muhammad Hazim Hanis Anuar, a (Parachute) Reserve Company platoon leader, who is a Class 2016 alumnus with a Bachelor of Education – Teaching English as Second Language.
Joining him were other alumni members Sefika Abdullah (MSU Medical Centre), Dr Imran Khan Jalaldeen (MSU Medical Centre), Sateshvaran Rajendram (Immigration assistant superintendent), Inspector Mohd Hafiz Mastor (Batu Caves) and Lt Kol Amirsarifudin Zalman (Civil Defence Force).
