YANGON: The son of the principal of Aung Myay Thit Private School in Taunggyi Township has been charged with three counts of alleged rape, rape of a minor, and defamation at the Taunggyi District Court, according to the Township Police.

"The court is still investigating the case under Sections 376, 363, and 505. No punishment has been handed down yet.

"We are also working to get effective punishment. We will also add the juvenile offence and physical harm.

"We have also linked it to Section 505 because it caused panic to the public. We have also taken measures to prevent similar crimes from happening in the future.

"No punishment has been handed down yet," said Acting Police Chief of Taunggyi Township, Police Chief U Ne Win.

The incident occurred on Jan 15 at around 12.30pm, when a Grade 12 student at Aung Myay Thit Private High School in Taunggyi Township asked her teacher for permission to go back to the dormitory to rest because she had a headache.

At around 1pm, the school principal's son arrived and allegedly raped her against her will.

He was arrested that same afternoon after a case was filed by the victim under Section 376 of the Penal Code (P) 15/2026 at the local police station at 2am on Jan 18. - Eleven Media/ANN
