Myanmar's first flower festival drawing crowds at Maw Myay Oo Park, Kalaw

YANGON: The first-ever flower festival is drawing droves of visitors to Maw Myay Oo Park in Kalaw.

The inaugural festival, from Thursday (Jan 1) to Jan 15, is open to the public with free admission.

It is aimed at further developing the country's tourism sector.

At the opening ceremony, Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung said that the flower festival showcased local flower species, including exotic ones, and that the event also used orchid gardens and many types of flowers to create beautiful landscapes.

The Chief Minister said that there would be a library for visitors to relax and read books, and many places for taking beautiful photos.

"There will also be a sports field, children's playgrounds, and local food stalls, so tourists and flower lovers from all over the country will be able to visit the Kalaw Flower Festival for free, relax, and learn, with free admission."

Also rpesent at the flower festival were the Regional Commander, the Acting Principal of the Military Academy, the State Minister of Roads and Transport and other officials. - Eleven Media/ANN
