Enforcement will be stepped up to ensure markets in the Ampang Jaya municipality meet hygiene standards.
From May to July, Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) conducted 1,435 inspections at morning and night market stalls.
At the end of July, 68 compounds, each carrying a maximum fine of RM1,000, were issued to business premises for not having enough rubbish bins.
“Our enforcement team patrols these markets daily and traders are required to comply with licensing conditions.
“Clean stalls, proper waste management and storage of perishable goods are compulsory,” said MPAJ deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari at the full board meeting yesterday.
MPAJ also implemented a month-long rat eliminating programme in Pasar Pandan Jaya.
“Five years ago, we equipped our markets with advanced two-layer wastewater treatment systems using modern microorganism technology.
“Waste management is also structured with segregated dry and wet market areas.
“Animal slaughter is restricted to designated primary markets.For other markets, only sale of pre-processed meats is allowed.”
He said annual recognition programmes were held to reward traders maintaining exemplary cleanliness at stalls, food premises and facilities.
“Winners receive a plaque and cash rewards of up to RM300,” he added.
In addition, all market traders operating within MPAJ’s purview benefit from a 30% rental reduction, which is a state government initiative.
In terms of revenue collection, Hasrolnizam said MPAJ has launched a month-long push to address arrears.
From January to July, collection was RM63mil, which is 60.91% of the annual RM103.5mil target.
“Notices have been served to 11,430 residential and commercial properties with a combined total of RM10.8mil in arrears at Taman Permai Jaya, Kampung Cheras Baru and Kampung Lembah Jaya Utara,” he said.
“Since May 2026, a task force of 107 members have been assigned to pursue 6,250 accounts with outstanding balances.
“As of Aug 20, the team has recovered RM3.55mil.”
In a move to curb illegal dumping, Hasrolnizam said MPAJ has appointed a panel of contractors for the disposal of industrial, commercial and institutional waste.
“The two-year contract period is from Aug 1, 2026 to July 31, 2028.
“The appointed panel contractors will be charged a registration fee of RM500 yearly and a deposit of RM5,000 for the entire contract period.
“Licence suspension notices or fines will be imposed if industrial premises do not appoint a waste disposal panel company registered with the council,” he said.
