Mega Nutrisi Selangor (Nutrisel) initiative will benefit more than 900,000 students across more than 900 schools in the state.

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the large-scale implementation was aimed at testing an approach to providing food assistance to all school students in the state, compared to the previous programme that targeted selected recipients.

He said the initiative would also enable the state government to identify areas for improvement, including the types of food products provided.

Amirudin said an additional RM2mil had been secured on top of the existing allocation, to strengthen the Nutrisel initiative.

This allowed for the inclusion of other products such as milk and bread for aid recipients, he said, as reported by Bernama.

“The expansion is scheduled to take place in a few weeks, alongside a review of areas requiring improvement,” he told reporters after launching the Nutrisel programme at SMK Telok Panglima Garang.

Earlier, Amirudin distributed 746 Nutrisel food packs to students at SK Telok Panglima Garang and SMK Telok Panglima Garang. The packs contained bread, water, nasi lemak, fruit and a portable fan.

The Nutrisel programme, which runs from August until this month, involves a total allocation of RM12.6mil channelled through local authorities and the State Economic Planning Unit.

Amirudin said the implementation of Nutrisel in Kuala Langat had benefitted 8,616 recipients across 78 schools, out of a total of 65,684 students under the Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) administration.

He said the total number of recipients to date stood at 104,640 across various categories under the state Education Department, covering 916 schools, and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department covering 16 schools.

This represents about 10% of the total student population in Selangor.

The programme aims to help ease the financial burden on B40 families, specifically those with a household income below RM2,000, while ensuring the students receive adequate nutrition to support their concentration in learning.
