SELANGOR athletes who won medals at Sukma 2026 and Para Sukma 2026 will receive their victory incentives next month.
State youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi said RM7mil had been allocated for this.
“The allocation has been approved by the state government. We will hold an appreciation ceremony for the athletes and volunteers next month.
“All athletes who achieved outstanding results will be presented with the incentives,” he said after officiating the Selangor Youth Convention at Dewan Raja Muda Musa in Section 7, Shah Alam.
Mohd Najwan said Selangor had announced equal incentive rates for Sukma and Para Sukma athletes to recognise both contingents.
Under the scheme, he said gold medallists in individual and team events involving up to three athletes would receive RM15,000.
Teams of four to 10 athletes will receive RM7,000, or RM10,000 for overall champions, while teams of more than 10 athletes will receive RM5,000, rising to RM7,000 for overall champions.
Selangor emerged overall champions at Sukma 2026 with 101 gold, 73 silver and 71 bronze medals.
The Para Sukma contingent collected 93 gold, 55 silver and 52 bronze medals.
Mohd Najwan said an incentive presentation was being planned alongside the Selangor State Sports Awards.
“The incentives are not just for athletes, but also cover sports associations, officials and management teams behind the contingent’s success.”
On an unrelated matter, Mohd Najwan, who is also Selangor disaster management committee chairman, was asked about investigations into the Putra Heights gas pipeline incident.
He said a formal announcement would be made on the investigation’s findings, without specifying a date.
The April 1, 2025 incident caused extensive damage to homes and vehicles in the affected area, prompting calls from stakeholders for the investigation’s findings and cause of explosion to be made public.
