VISITORS to Lover’s Bridge in Tanjong Sepat have been warned against littering, after the local government found piles of rubbish at the popular sightseeing and fishing spot in Selangor.
Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL), in a media statement, said an enforcement operation found polystyrene containers, plastic bottles and food waste dumped at the site.
“MPKL carried out a cleanup to clear away the rubbish piles left along the bridge.
“We urge the public and local communities to be more responsible to ensure cleanliness in the area,” it said.
The local council stressed that those found littering were liable to a compound of up to RM2,000 under its bylaw.
“Such irresponsible behaviour can destroy the image of Tanjong Sepat as a tourism attraction,” it added.
In a separate statement, MPKL said two construction sites in Pekan Sungai Manggis and Bandar Rimbayu were each issued a notice after both were found to be overflowing with rubbish.
The local council said inspections by its Solid Waste and Environmental Health as well as Enforcement departments at the sites also found liquid waste being discharged into drains in addition to open burning.
“Following our checks, a notice was issued under Section 109, Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171) to the parties responsible.
“An order was also issued for them to undertake cleanup works within seven days.”
MPKL urged developers and contractors to ensure their project sites comply with cleanliness standards.
