Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang is urging Sarawak government to speed up the construction of Selangau Mini Sports Complex.
The project, funded by the state government, cost RM7.9mil, he said in a statement.
“Sarawak government has approved an allocation of RM8mil for the construction of the sports complex,” he added.
Sambang said the project was offered to contractors to carry out the construction on Aug 5, 2020, and the project was expected to be completed on June 4, 2022.
However, he said the con- tractor involved withdrew from implementing this project after the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021.
As a result, no construction work had taken place at the site, he added.
“The Selangau Mini Sports Complex is the only sports facility in Selangau District and is eagerly awaited by local residents to hold sports events.
“As a representative of the people, I strongly call on the Sarawak Youth and Sports Ministry to speed up the construction of this facility,” said Sambang.
He said the complex was to have a football field, running track, facilities for high jump and long jump, hall and parking facilities.
“I hope that the ministry and government will make this project a success, so that Selangau does not fall behind in terms of sports development.”
