THE sounds of worship filled the church hall as more than 500 congregants came together to celebrate National Day through music, prayer and cultural performances.
It was jointly organised by pastors from more than 50 churches in Penang.
The event also featured dances from Sabah and Sarawak, a Nyonya dance and Indian dance, adding a multicultural dimension to the celebrations.
Organising chairman Pastor Samuel Teh said the event used to be held annually but had been put on hold for more than 10 years.
“This is an evening of celebration, praise and worship, but also a time for us to give thanks and pray for our nation, for Penang and the Penang churches.”
Prayers were offered for the country’s leaders, social harmony, economic growth, racial unity and the future of Malaysia.
The service also featured prayers in different languages, reflecting the country’s multicultural society.
Teh said bringing together churches from different denominations, including Anglican, Methodist, Baptist, Assembly of God and independent churches, provided an opportunity for Christians to strengthen unity and express their gratitude for the nation.
The event also sought to promote peace, justice and mutual respect, while highlighting the role of churches in fostering social harmony and contributing to nation-building.
