FREQUENT water supply disruption has become a norm in Taman Pelangi, which is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Johor Baru.Resident Mohd Reza Ali, 45, said it was about time the authorities replaced the water pipes in the area.

“The recent pipe burst at Jalan Kuning is a clear indication that water pipes in Taman Pelangi need to be replaced as soon as possible.

“It was very annoying that there is either no water or the water pressure in my house is too low,” said Mohd Reza.

He added that with rapid development and more people living in the city, water usage was bound to increase.

Susan Tan, 81, said there had been numerous water disruptions over the past few months and the recent pipe burst incident made the situation worse.

“I am very frustrated because there was not a drop of water after the pipe burst along Jalan Kuning.”

“I am an old lady and I have nerve problems, making it difficult for me to walk and carry pails of water.

“I do hope the issue will be resolved soon,” she said.

Technician M. Siva, 37, who is renting a room at a house in the area, said the recent water disruption made it difficult for him to get ready for work.

“I work in Singapore and normally get up around 5am. When I turned on the tap, there was hardly any water flowing,” he complained.

Stulang assemblyman Andrew Chen said he had received complaints from residents in Taman Pelangi about the water disruption.

“We immediately forwarded the complaints to Ranhill SAJ, which is the utility company responsible for water supply services in Johor.

“Their contractor worked around the clock to repair the burst pipe and water supply was restored,” he said.
