A FOOD court located by Permai Lake in Sibu town which serves authentic Dayak delicacies is in the works in Sarawak.

“We are transforming the Permai Lake Gardens food court into a Dayak food court involving a cost of RM700,000,” said Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting.

Ting said the previous food court was built in 2000 under the initiative of former Sibu MP and Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew.

“However, over the past 24 years, the food court has not been very successful.

“So, a former councillor suggested that we turn it into a Dayak food court,” he said at the SMC Ngiling Bidai ceremony that was held to celebrate the end of the Gawai Dayak festivities at the food court.

Ting called on the community to support the new food court to ensure its success.

“We want to make sure that when people come to Sibu, they will remember this food court as the place where they tasted good cooking and delicious food.

“I hope that councillors – not only the Dayak councillors but also the Chinese and Malay Melanau councillors – will work together to ensure this place is successful,” he stressed.

Ting believed that the newly renovated food court would be the nicest one in Sibu.

“There is no other food court with a lake view.

“So, I hope that SMC will encourage people to enjoy dining with their family by the lake,” he said. — By ANDY CHUA
