FREE parking for 30 minutes will be offered at the multi-level carpark next to Klang’s KTM Komuter station on Jalan Raya Timur from April 1.

Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) public relations officer Ane Salfarizan Mispani said that earlier, free parking was only available for 15 minutes.

“This is an effort to encourage motorists to use our parking facilities to drop off or pick up passengers,” she said.

Ane said the rate of RM5 per day charged by the operator at the multi-level building is the same rate imposed by all RAC- appointed operators.

Asked whether a buggy service would be introduced to ferry people from the multi- level parking area to Jalan Tengku Kelana, Jalan Stesen and Jalan Dato Hamzah, she said this proposal would require a feasibility study.

The three-storey carpark has 583 bays for cars and 68 for motorcycles.

There are nine parking bays for the disabled and 40, identifiable in bright pink, for women.

For the physically challenged, parking is free.

Separately, she said RAC welcomed Klang Royal City Council’s (MBDK) plan to have a dedicated team of uniformed enforcement riders to patrol the area outside the Komuter station’s multi-level carpark and near financial institutions to create a safer environment.

On March 16, Klang deputy mayor Mohd Zary Affendi Mohd Arif had proposed the idea to improve public safety.

The plan is to patrol the area around the station, such as along Jalan Stesen as well as Jalan Dato Hamzah where many financial institutions are situated, as reported by StarMetro. — By EDWARD RAJENDRA
