KLANG Royal City Council’s (MBDK) Licensing Department will form a task force to check on kindergartens and childcare centres to ensure they are licensed and operators adhere to building regulations.
MBDK Corporate Communications Department director Norfiza Mahfiz said this was important as such premises must comply with safety requirements.
“Our Licensing Department recently came across an unlicensed kindergarten in Bandar Bukit Raja, which is located in a corner lot house.
“We are concerned about safety requirements at the premises, such as fire escape and building layout, as these could affect the safety of its occupants,” she said.
Last week, MDBK had responded to public complaints of an unlicensed kindergarten and sent a team of officers to investigate.
“During the visit, the team counted five teachers and 30 children inside the kindergarten,” said Norfiza.
“They also confirmed that the premises did not have a business licence nor a licence for its kindergarten signboard.
“MDBK’s officers issued two compounds on the kindergarten operator – one under the Trade, Business and Industrial Licensing Bylaw 2007 and Advertisement Bylaw 2007.
“Each offence carries a fine of RM1,000,” she said.
Norfiza added that MBDK would continue to take firm stand against businesses that fail to obtain the necessary council licences to operate.
On another issue, Norfiza said that MDBK’s Licensing Department responded to a complaint of an illegal mini market at Jalan Sementa Utama 1 in Taman Sementa Utama.
MBDK issued a fine of RM2,000 to the operator for operating without a business licence and for using an unlicensed signboard.
