Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) is partnering with MetMalaysia, Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force to strengthen monsoon preparedness.

Klang mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said the inter-agency collaboration would focus on monitoring weather developments, assessing risks and mitigating the impact of flash floods and prolonged dry conditions.

“MBDK’s Skuad Pantas will work closely with these agencies to manage the situation and minimise risks,” he said.

Abd Hamid added that Skuad Pantas would liaise with MetMalaysia for regular weather forecasts and early warning information to support timely decision-making.

He said the Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence force would support in emergencies.

“The city council will also intensify monitoring of high-risk areas, carry out public awareness campaigns and ensure relevant resources to safeguard public safety,” he said.

MBDK Corporate Communi-cations Department director Norfiza Mahfiz said the collaboration would help minimise disruptions to communities during the monsoon season.

On June 30, The Star reported that Malaysia may face increased risk of transboundary haze in the coming months, driven by the south-west monsoon and intensifying El Nino cycle.

MBDK enforcement chief Andry Arman Masrom, who oversees Skuad Pantas, said the team would be on alert to handle emergencies and disasters.

“Skuad Pantas has implemented several operational measures to address the challenges posed by the south-west monsoon season, which is typically characterised by hot and dry weather and an increased risk of open burning and haze,” he said.

He said the operational focus included patrols and surveillance in areas prone to open burning, as well as response to reports of open burning, peat soil and landfill fires and other emergencies.

“Our team will monitor fire hotspots, peatland areas and coordinate operations with the relevant agencies.

“Squad Pantas comprises an assistant enforcement officer, one operations officer and 27 enforcement personnel.

“Operations are conducted on a three-shift rotation to ensure continuous readiness,” he said.
