CNY concert to light up Ipoh park

Amphitheatre at DR Seenivasagam Recreational Park will host a concert tomorrow.

A Chinese musical extravaganza will be held at the DR Seenivasagam Recreational Park amphitheatre in Ipoh tomorrow night in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said this would be the first concert at the venue since its completion last March.

The idea, he said, came from Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming to coincide with the launch of the park’s lighting system and boating activity.

“Various activities will be held during the concert, including dragon and lion dances, traditional dance, Chinese vocal performances, orchestra and fireworks display,” he said.

There would also be food trucks, he said, adding that they expected over 1,000 visitors at the 8pm event.

Rumaizi said the amphitheatre was suitable for entertainment shows, in line with Ipoh being listed as a Music City by Unesco Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in Oct 31 last year.

“It will be a new tourist destination and the location for music lovers to promote their performances,” he added.

Rumaizi said Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry has allocated RM250,000 to upgrade and improve lighting to make the park comfortable and safe for visitors.

He added that Housing and Local Government Ministry, through the National Landscape Department, also pledged RM500,000 while Ipoh City Council approved an additional RM250,000 to improve landscape and lighting at the park. — By IVAN LOH
