The long-awaited opening of the new Uptown Shah Alam complex in Section 24 remains on hold as the development awaits its Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC).

Developer and operator Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) confirmed that the project was currently undergoing the necessary approval process before traders could be relocated.

The transition is already in motion, however, as traders of the existing Uptown Shah Alam, right next to the new development, participated in balloting on April 28 to determine their lot assignment.

Once operational, the two-storey complex will house about 400 traders across 440 retail lots and 20 food stalls.

Designed with a “Modern Bugis” look, the facility aims to provide a more organised and comfortable shopping experience than the current open-air setup, according to PKNS.

Modern amenities include more than 300 parking bays, lifts, escalators, public toilets and surau, alongside a stage and communal spaces for events and activities.

In line with sustainability goals, the complex also features a rainwater harvesting system, natural ventilation, waste management systems for food stalls and green spaces within and around the building.

A PKNS spokesperson told StarMetro that the project was part of broader efforts to modernise Shah Alam’s urban landscape while supporting local entrepreneurs.

Uptown Shah Alam, operating for over a decade along Persiaran Sultan, has grown into a well-known night bazaar that attracts visitors from across the Klang Valley.

The new complex is expected to enhance the area’s appeal as a commercial and recreational destination, supporting Selangor government’s push to promote tourism and local economic activity, the spokesperson said.

While access to the site will be improved through existing routes along Persiaran Sultan and new road via Jalan Pudina 24/41, Shah Alam City Council has clarified that the route will only be open once the CCC is obtained and final inspections are completed.

Until then, the relocation of traders and official opening of the new complex remains pending. — By MEGAT SYAHAR
