AMPANG: The long-awaited Section 2 of the East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) will not be operational anytime soon.
As of April 25, the progress rate for Section 2, which spans from Ampang to Ukay Perdana, currently stands at 72.78%.
The current completion date has been revised to December 2026 from its March target.
Overall, the EKVE project's progress rate is at 92%.
Cash flow issues have been highlighted as among the major problems for Section 2's completion.
"Delays will ultimately impact road users, local communities and economies.
"We want this project to be actively mobilised and completed as soon as possible," said Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman Kamri Kamaruddin after a site visit on Monday (May 11).
He said the ensuing dust and noise disturbances as well as temporary road closures have disrupted the daily routines of local residents.
"The people here have waited for too long for the project's completion, with the various risks posed," he said.
It is learnt that work has also been halted for about a week.
This leaves the surrounding communities, which house approximately 35,000 residents, in limbo as long as the project remains incomplete.
Datuk Ahmad Fazli Ahamad Nordin, a spokesman for WZR Property, the main contractor for the project said work can begin immediately once financing issues are resolved with the bank.
"We have no issues. The sub-contractors are just waiting for the green light from us," he said.
Work on the EKVE began in 2015 and was initially scheduled to be completed in 2019.
Following the Covid-19 pandemic starting in 2020, the completion date was revised.
Section 1 was completed and opened to the public in August 2025, launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
It is a dual carriageway, featuring four grade-separated interchanges, namely the Sungai Long Interchange, Bandar Mahkota Cheras Interchange, Hulu Langat Interchange and Ampang Interchange.
The stretch forms part of the Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road (KLORR) to divert traffic out of the city centre.
