Sepang market will get almost half a million ringgit upgrade

Upgrades to Pasar Awam Sepang will take after the remodelling of Pasar Awam Salak (pictured).

SEPANG Municipal Council (MPSepang) will use funds from Local Government Development Ministry (KPKT) to upgrade Pasar Awam Sepang.

MPSepang president Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said upgrading works worth RM460,000 were expected to start today and would be modelled after the renovation of Pasar Awam Salak.

“Pasar Awam Salak was refurbished in 2022 with some RM500,000 funds from KPKT after it suffered damage during the floods in December 2021.

“Another RM15,000 was spent early this year to rearrange the layout,” he said during the MPSepang full board meeting at its headquarters in Cyberjaya, Selangor.

After the upgrade, the site received a Grade A rating under the Clean Public Market category in KPKT’s Environmental Health Campaign 2023.

Abd Hamid said the municipal council would like to play its part in changing the bad perception people had of wet markets.

“Plans are in the pipeline for upgrades to two other markets in the municipality, in Dengkil and Sungai Pelek. I hope these efforts will give a boost to the market traders,” he added.

To face the monsoon season, Abd Hamid said MPSepang had prepared a disaster management plan standard operating procedure for its departments and relevant units.

He said MPSepang would take instructions from the Sepang District and Land Office, which would be leading the district’s disaster management committee in evacuating victims and managing temporary evacuation centres.

“A total of 23 Skuad Pantas members will be on standby while representatives from other departments will also be ready to join rescue efforts.

“We will mobilise assets such as logistical equipment and vehicles, as well as use community halls for flood relief efforts,” he said.
