ROAD and drain maintenance, rubbish collection and landscaping will be among Sepang Municipal Council’s (MPSepang) main priorities under its “back to basics” approach.
MPSepang president Dr Ani Ahmad said the council wanted residents to see more spending directed towards basic services and infrastructure maintenance.
The local council’s 2027 budget estimates revenue of RM298.59mil against expenditure of RM298.54mil, with a projected surplus of RM50,000.
Ani said the small surplus was deliberate as the council aimed to keep spending prudent amid economic uncertainty.
She said a surplus would also help the council under the Local Authority Star Rating System.
“If there is a RM50,000 surplus, we will get marks under the Local Authority Star Rating System, but if there is a deficit, we will lose marks,” she said during the council’s monthly full board meeting at its headquarters in Cyberjaya yesterday.
Ani said both projected revenue and expenditure were 0.16% higher than in 2026.
About 73% of expenditure would go towards operating costs and almost 27% towards development.
Ani said MPSepang had been moving towards a 70:30 operating-to-development ratio since 2025.
Rising electricity and fuel costs were also being taken into account.
“While assessment tax remains MPSepang’s main source of revenue, the council is working to increase non-tax income from areas such as licensing, investments, services and facility rentals,” she added.
MPSepang also received eight public proposals through its Budget 2027 ideas portal, which Ani said were considered in preparing the plan.
She said the council had also included gender responsive budgeting principles in Budget 2027 and would consider the needs of persons with disabilities, senior citizens, women, men, children and teenagers.
MPSepang is also preparing for the F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit from Oct 2 to 4, with Ani estimating the council would spend about RM200,000 to RM300,000 on work in areas outside the circuit.
This includes landscaping, beautification, cleaning, fogging and inspections.
On traffic management during race weekend, she said police would lead traffic and security operations, with MPSepang enforcement personnel providing support.
The municipal council is also working with Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (Kuskop) for 60 local traders to take part during the event.
Ani said arrangements were still being finalised, with traders required to meet event conditions including restrictions on plastic packaging.
