AFTER a three-year hiatus, Run for Peace is returning this July.

More than 55,000 people are expected to take part in the event that will be held at 23 locations nationwide.

It is organised by Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) with the aim of fostering a culture of peace in the community besides promoting sustainability for the planet, with a focus on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

SGM is collaborating with Youth and Sports Ministry, local councils, institutions and organisations in various states in holding the run this year, it said in a statement.

In Klang Valley, the run will be held with the joint efforts of Klang Municipal Council (MPK) and International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) at Padang Besar Taman Klang Jaya (Ikeda Peace Park) on July 2 and IIUM Gombak on July 9. The distance is 8km and 3.5km respectively.

Run for Peace is a biennial event held since 2005, and to date, more than 360,000 peace lovers have participated.

The key objective is to promote the belief that “Peace starts with me!”, emphasising that positive change begins with each individual.

This message empowers participants and reminds them that their actions can contribute to creating harmony and peace in their communities, societies, countries, and the world as a whole.

This year, an additional slogan is introduced to encourage everyone to “ActNOW for SDGs!”

SGM is calling on everyone, particularly youths, to come together to run for peace and the SDGs, and unite towards developing a peaceful as well as more sustainable future together.
