Mohd Hasnizan Harun promises to look into improving education, infrastructure and public services in Hulu Selangor as the new MP for the area.
The 52-year-old, from Perikatan Nasional’s PAS, said he planned to meet the key people in local authorities and government agencies to get to know them better before working out a plan of action.
He added that he would better understand the issues faced by the authorities and people through meetings with the likes of the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) president and Hulu Selangor district officer.
In addition, the former MPHS councillor will set up a service centre in Bukit Beruntung soon.
“Currently, I am continuing the work of former Hulu Selangor MP June Leow, which is to ensure street lights are installed for the road from Serendah to Hulu Bernam,” Mohd Hasnizan said.
He also plans to look into getting a public hospital set up in Batang Kali or Bukit Beruntung and upgrading health clinics in Serendah and Rasa to cater to the growing population there.
“There is also a need for a public university here and current tertiary institutions need to be upgraded accordingly as well,” the father of five said, adding that he would also address some longstanding land issues in Bandar Sungai Buaya.
“I thank the voters for giving me the mandate and will do my best for the people here as I too reside in Bukit Beruntung, Rawang,’’ he said.
Mohd Hasnizan won with a 1,562 majority, defeating Pakatan Harapan’s Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan from PKR.
Mohd Hasnizan received 46,823 votes while Dr Sathia Prakash had 45,261 votes.
Despite losing the election, Dr Sathia Prakash, 45, aims to continue helping people in the area as Hulu Selangor PKR chairman.
“I will look into establishing a media hub in Hulu Selangor.
“I lost with a small majority so this shows that there is a lot of support for me here,” he said.
MIC vice-president Datuk T. Mohan, 49, from Barisan Nasional came in third with 27,050 votes.
“The Hulu Selangor MIC division will be revamped to engage with the younger generation through sports and social activities,’’ he said.
Harumaini Omar, 64, from Pejuang, who received 1,849 votes, vowed to continue serving as Batang Kali assemblyman.
“This is my kampung (Kampung Ulu Kalong in Hulu Yam Bharu) so I will continue to serve the people in the community,’’ he said.
When contacted, Lembah Jaya assemblyman Haniza Talha, 60, from Parti Bangsa Malaysia, who had 1,013 votes, said her party would continue to work towards gaining the trust of the people.
Independent candidate Azlinda Baroni, 58, who received 446 votes, said she would continue looking into environmental issues in her area.
