TODAY is going to be a long day for Malaysians as they perform their duty to elect a new government.

Queueing up at polling centres can be very tiring and is bound to make one hungry and thirsty.

Many will be surfing the web searching for a good food hangout in their constituency.

Here is our list of go-to places in 10 of Selangor’s constituencies. Selamat menjamu selera!

1. Ampang — Pau Pak Ngah

Often, the pau filling is the traditional kaya or red bean. At Pau Pak Ngah, one gets these as well as some unique flavours.

Its premium pau range consists of Italian flavours such as Cheesy Beef Bolognese, Mushroom Chicken Carbonara and Black Pepper Beef.

Malaysian flavours such as Rendang Daging, Ayam Masak Merah, Kari Daging and Sardin Cili Api are also bestsellers here.

Long queues are to be expected daily.

The stall has dine-in as well as takeaway and delivery services.

The operating hours are from 1pm to 7pm and it is closed on Tuesdays.

2. Hulu Langat — Purnama Klasik

Purnama Klasik is famous for its Shellout Sets (including seafood mixed with a special sauce).

The restaurant’s Thai, Korean and Western food keep the customers coming back for more.

The prices for the Shellout Sets start from RM35. The set sizes are small, medium, large and extra large, according to the number of diners.

It has a foodpanda rating of 4.6/5.

The restaurant operates from 4pm to 1am, offering dine-in, takeaway and delivery services.

3. Klang — Yap Kee Banana Leaf

It is always surprising to see a Chinese restaurant selling banana leaf meals. Yap Kee, a 98-year-old kopitiam, is not an easy find as it is tucked away among other colonial-era shops along Jalan Besar.

The banana leaf meal served here is simple with choice of fish or meat curry to go with a few vegetable dishes of the day, and not forgetting the pappadam. Customers can also decide whether they want freshly fried chicken or fish.

A standard meal comprising a generous portion of rice, curry, vegetables, fried chicken or fried fish will cost RM9, which is considerably affordable.

Operating hours are 11.30am to 4pm and takeaway service is available.

4. Subang — Big Singh Chapati

Big Singh Chapati is known for various types of chapati. There are 12 meal sets available on weekdays from 11am to 4pm.

The place also serves a variety of a la carte options cooked with chicken, mutton, prawns or egg.

Vegetarians don’t have to worry as vegetarian dishes are also available.

Wash it all down with hot masala tea, mint lassi or fresh cow’s milk.

Desserts such as gulab jamun, carrot halwa and coconut candy provide a sweet end to your meal.

The operating hours are from 11am to 11pm. Those who don’t want to dine in can choose kerb-side pickup and no-contact delivery.

5. Sungai Buloh — Daughter’s Kitchen

Daughter’s Kitchen is operated by four sisters who are self-taught cooks.

They serve a variety of Malay dishes but customers are most enthusiastic about their icy sweets.

Their famous desserts are ABC Pacak and Milo Ais Kepal.

ABC Pacak has a splash of rainbow coloured syrup on the mound of shaved ice covering ingredients that include red bean, cincau, cream corn and peanuts. This is priced at RM4.90.

Milo Ais Kepal, meanwhile, is an icy ball drizzled with a thickened Milo mixture and sprinkled with nuts on top, for the price of RM2.90.

The operating hours are from noon to 10.30 pm. Dine-in, takeaway and delivery available.

Daughter’s Kitchen is located at No.105, Jalan Kusta, Kampung Melayu Batu 13 in Sungai Buloh.

6. Puchong — Warung Cikgu

Warung Cikgu is a well-known nasi kukus restaurant here. It serves only three dishes, but at very affordable prices.

Its signature dish is Nasi Mmanggey (RM5.20), and Nasi Lemak (RM5.20) and Nasi Berlauk Ikan Tongkol (RM4.50) make up the rest of the menu.

The eatery workers scoop the items for you and the standard amount of rice is filling. It received good reviews on the foodpanda site.

Warung Cikgu operates from 9am to 10pm daily. They also have takeaway service.

It is located at No.1, Jalan BP6/7, Bandar Bukit Puchong, Puchong.

7.Gombak — Nasi Lemak Ujang

CornerNasi Lemak Ujang Corner is said to serve the best nasi lemak in town. This comes with many side dishes such as egg, fried chicken, bergedil (deep-fried potato patty), pepper chicken, ikan keli berlada, sambal paru and chicken rendang.

The prices are also quite affordable and the portion is satisfying.

This stall is open from 8am to noon daily with takeaway service provided. Its rating on foodpanda is 4.7/5.

It is located at Gerai MPS No.1, Gerai Taman Greenwood, Jalan Batu Caves, Taman Greenwood in Batu Caves.

8. Sepang — Utan Cafe

This cafe is known for its big portions of local and Western dishes at affordable prices. The famous dishes are smoked duck and giant lobster.

Two popular drinks are mangga leleh and Jus Mintak Dimadu, both of which have a scoop of ice cream on top.

There are also sides such as french fries, crispy banana cheese, cekodok pisang and a few types of jemput-jemput. The eatery has a foodpanda rating of 4.6/5.

Utan Cafe is open from 11am to 11pm for dine-in and takeaway. It is closed on Mondays.

It is located in Sepang Perdana Jalan Salak Lapangan Sasar Golf Awam, Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, Sepang.

9. Petaling Jaya — Al-Sham Arabian Cuisine

Technically, this stall is in the neighbouring Kuala Lumpur. It sells Arabian food that consists of three types of Mandi rice, hummus as sides and also two types of sandwiches that can be bought a la carte or as part of a meal set.

As for dessert, there is their famous freshly baked kunafa.

A family set containing Mandi rice, chicken shawarma and freshly baked cream kunafa with salad, gravy and sahawiq (a type of salsa) is available for four to five persons. Customers can choose either chicken or lamb or a combination.

Al-Sham Arabian Cuisine is located in Rasta TTDI Food Court, Jalan Datuk Sulaiman in Kampung Sungai Penhala.

10. Shah Alam — Eat and Repeat

This place serves 15 small portioned dishes that cost only RM1.90 each. They include curry mee, tandoori chicken and laksa.

There are even desserts like ice cream and sago gula melaka.

Operating hours are from noon to 11pm daily for dine-in, takeaway and delivery. Foodpanda rating is 4.3/5.

The name of the place is apt as you will definitely eat and repeat.

It is located at YG24, Jalan Plumbum Y7/Y, Section 7, Shah Alam.
