‘Elevated highway idea may help ease traffic at Jalan Kuching junction’

Yee says vehicles get stuck in traffic from Pasar Borong in Jalan Ipoh to the Jalan Kuching junction that connects with Jalan Kepayang.

AN elevated highway may help address the worsening traffic congestion from Pasar Borong in Jalan Ipoh to the Jalan Kuching junction which connects with Jalan Kepayang in Kuala Lumpur.

Community activist Yee Poh Ping said motorists were stuck in traffic jams from the Batu Caves roundabout to this junction daily.

Yee said one long-term solution was building an elevated highway from the Batu Caves roundabout to Jalan Sultan Ismail to reduce the number of vehicles heading to the junction to get into the city centre.

His other suggestion is to open up a junction at Jalan Selising 5 leading to the inner roads of Taman City so that motorists can avoid the traffic build-up at the Jalan Kuching junction.

He said traffic congestion was a major concern since more apartment development projects had kicked off in the city’s western region.

“We are afraid that the situation will worsen in five to 10 years with new apartment blocks coming up around the area.

“We have filed complaints with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) since 2016 to upgrade this junction for better traffic flow and to ease congestion,” he added.

Yee urged DBKL to study the road alignment and find ways to improve traffic flow in order to prevent the road congestion from getting worse.
