State’s largest halal food court in Sibu

TAMAN Harmoni in Sibu now has the largest fully certified halal food court in the state with 47 stalls.The second largest is the food court in Lundu with 22 followed by Baitulmal Building in Kuching with nine stalls.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting, who was present during a ceremony to present stall owners with their halal certificate, said it would attract more visitors to the town.

“I am very happy that at last we have a place where all the stalls are certified halal.

“People used to complain that besides hotels, there was no other place where all stalls were halal,” he said.

Ting said the food court would be able to draw more Muslim visitors from Peninsular Malaysia as well as Indonesia.

“We had in 2020 planned to make this place fully halal but it was delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The next food court that we hope will be fully halal is Bandung Walk,” he said.

Taman Harmoni is located in Jalan Awang Ramli Amit, a 15-minute walk from the Waterfront.

The food court operates daily from 3pm to 12.30am.

Many of the stalls that serve a variety of food have colourful names including Warung AJ Super Power, Gerai Art 696, Mail Olen Corner, Sup Bollywood, Memori Bawang Putih Bawang Merah and Kotomato Corner.

Sarawak Islamic Religious Department halal management division chief Ramzen Ambi said they were planning to declare six more places fully halal certified this year.

“We plan to have two in Kuching and one each in Serian, Daro and Bintulu.

“Another one in Miri could soon overtake Sibu as the biggest fully halal food court in the state with 64 stalls,” he said.
