THE amended design of an elevated U-turn project in Ukay Perdana, Ampang Jaya in Selangor as part of the East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) fulfils safety requirements and design engineering standards, says the highway developer.
Its spokesperson for the project said the design had been checked by Independent Checking Engineers (ICE) and Road Safety Auditor (RSA).
“For safety measures, the consultant proposed high parapet walls, advanced warning signs and reducing speed by introducing traverse bars among other safety features.
“Noise barriers will also be installed to mitigate the environmental impact on this area,” said the spokesperson in a statement to StarMetro.
The alignment for the elevated U-turn was amended because of delays in construction of the EKVE following a legal proceeding between a property owner and the developer.
StarMetro recently highlighted concerns by residents in Taman Sering Ukay and Bukit Antarabangsa over the design of the elevated U-turn. They claimed that the bend in the amended U-turn, located at Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2), was too sharp.
They had sent protest letters highlighting their concerns to the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) as well as EKVE developer Ahmad Zaki Resources Bhd (AZRB) last month.
On the stakeholders’ request for a briefing over the matter, the company’s spokesperson said the changes were a design improvement that did not require stakeholders’ involvement.
“The changes made on the design involve only a minor part.
“In fact, the realignment of the structure will provide better setback compared to the earlier design.
“The remaining works are expected to be completed by June 2022.”
The EKVE is part of the Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road and will be a dual-carriageway tolled stretch between Bandar Sungai Long and Ukay Perdana.
