Residents: Remove part of divider on Fadason link road

Fadason Villa residents want part of the divider along the new Fadason link road in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, to be removed so that vehicles from Laman Rimbunan can head to Jinjang Utara via Jalan Jinjang Setia 3.

According to the residents, the divider was built before the construction of the Fadason link road connecting Jalan Besar Kepong to the Middle Ring Road II (MRR2), which is slated to be completed by the end of this month.

“Previously, vehicles from Laman Rimbunan could use the short cut, which is Jalan Jinjang Setia 3, to get to Jinjang Utara.

“The divider will now divert vehicles to Jalan 3/17, which is in front of our neighbourhood in Fadason Villa, to get to Jinjang Utara instead.

“When the link road is fully open, we fear traffic will swell at the entrance of Fadason Villa and this will cause much inconvenience to residents, ” said Fadason Villa chairman Wong Foon Yew during a press conference.

Currently, the Fadason link road is partially open. The stretch connecting Laman Rimbunan to Taman Fadason is expected to be open next year.

Wong said vehicles heading to the neighbourhood would need to queue up to register at the guardhouse and additional traffic would surely cause congestion in the area, considering that the road channels traffic from the Kepong main road and MRR2.

“We want to prevent this and hope Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) can review the traffic system in the area, ” he added.

A check by StarMetro showed that vehicles from Laman Rimbunan were driving against traffic along the Fadason link road to head to Jinjang Utara via Jalan Jinjang Setia 3, endangering the safety of other road users.

Kepong Community Service Centre head Yee Poh Ping said the original plan to build a flyover on top of the Fadason link road had been scrapped as the funds allocated for the flyover were used to clear up rubbish at an illegal dumpsite along the link road.

“The link road project, which started in 2018 and due to be completed in March this year, was delayed as the ‘rubbish mountain’ had to be cleared.

“The 2.6km flyover connecting the Kepong main road to MRR2 would have shortened travel time.

“This means vehicles from Laman Rimbunan will now have to pass through Jalan 3/17 and Jalan Benteng Barat to get to Jinjang Utara when the entire link road is open.

“Jalan Benteng Barat is not a main road and will not be able to cope with the heavy traffic.

“I hope DBKL can open up the divider at the Jalan Jinjang Setia 3 and Fadason link road junction, ” Yee added.
