KUALA LUMPUR: Dataran Merdeka will be closed from Aug 1 until Dec 31 to facilitate maintenance and beautification works.
These works will include the replacement of the grass as well as the upgrading of Dataran Merdeka to ensure that the quality of the turf is maintained.
A Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) spokesman said this was part of beautification works under the River of Life (ROL) project.
"Dataran Merdeka is part and parcel of the ROL. Maintenance contractors were previously not allowed to work on the field during the movement control order, so the work now is needed to ensure the quality of the field," he said.
