KUANTAN: Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (IIT BHU) for a period of seven years to collaborate in academic exchange and research for technological advancements and social welfare.

The MoU was signed by UMP vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Seri Dr Daing Nasir Ibrahim and IIT BHU director Prof Pramod Kumar Jain in Uttar Pradesh, India recently.

Prof Pramod said owing to the emerging research and educational scenario, IIT BHU had taken numerous initiatives to integrate its educational and research excellence by collaborating with world-class institutions.

He said the move was a step forward as UMP had marked a global presence in less than two decades of its establishment and in testifying their commitment in engineering and technological education.

Dr Daing said the MoU was a landmark in the history of the university as the legacy and prominence of IIT BHU would help UMP to strategically position itself in the emerging world scenario of disruptive technologies, artificial intelligence and data science.

He added that UMP’s emergence as the No 1 technological university in Malaysia in the QS 2019 world university ranking list had put them on the radar of many renowned institutions including IIT BHU. — By ONG HAN SEAN
