Stories come alive at book-themed event

Guests being greeted by a ‘dinosaur’ at the launch of The Story Book in Desa ParkCity, Kuala Lumpur.

A FULL day of activities themed “Discover the Story” was organised by The Story Book at its store in Plaza Arkadia, Desa ParkCity in conjunction with its opening.

Those who attended the event not only took part in the programmes but were treated to a variety of offerings, at the booths set up by some brands and retailers within the shop.

Kaleidoscope and Carousel, a lifestyle store located in Plaza Arkadia, put up an impressive display of toys and trinkets.

Bake Plan bakery from SS2, Petaling Jaya, The Weekend Baker and social enterprise Bake with Dignity offered a delightful array of bread, buns and cupcakes for sale.

A wide range of children’s books by local authors highlighting local heritage was offered by Oyez!Books at the event.

Personalised children’s book My World and I supplier and interactive learning solutions provider, Access Dunia Sdn Bhd, also organised talks on how to make stories and learning fun for young ones.

Children listened attentively as speech and drama teacher Thasha Gunaseelan told a story of Peggy the Tiny Pirate.

The story helped give them an understanding about bullying and what to do if they encounter a friend being bullied.

There was also the “Off to Story Land with Ronnie the Bear” which included a story-reading and clue-hunting exercise.

“We have different programmes throughout the day to cater to both children and adults, but it was the children who showed encouraging results as they showed so much interest in the storytelling and reading session,” said The Story World Sdn Bhd director Jeanisha Wan.

Other events lined up this month are Alice in Wonderland Tea Party for children and a Tolkien Reading Day for adults.
