Penang islanders produced 650 tonnes of waste last year, up 42 tonnes

THE total waste produced by Penang island residents rocketed by 42 tonnes to 650 tonnes daily last year despite the city council’s effort to combat waste.

Penang Island City Council mayor Yew Tung Seang said that even with the waste segregation at source programme which started in 2017, 650 tonnes or 130 lorryloads of waste was generated on a daily basis due to the increase of commercial buildings and population.
