Malaysians travelling from Kuala Lumpur can soon skip layovers and connecting flights when travelling to Busan, South Korea, as AirAsia X will resume its direct route service in June.

At this time, AirAsia X is the only Malaysian carrier offering direct flight services to Busan, or at least, the only local carrier that has announced plans to do so. Busan will be the airline’s 21st destination across the globe, and its second in South Korea (alongside Seoul), strengthening its presence in the North Asian market.

“Resuming this route reflects our disciplined approach to growing our network while enabling more travellers to enjoy new travel experiences and adventures,” said AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail in a press statement. “Busan enhances our footprint in South Korea, and we look forward to welcoming travellers from Busan to Malaysia, particularly in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026.”

The airline will operate four weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 starting June 17.

To mark the relaunch, promotional fares are available from RM299 one-way for economy and RM999 one-way for Premium Flatbed. The promotion runs until Jan 18 for travel between June 17 and Nov 30 this year.

Busan, South Korea's second largest city, is known for its natural wonders and rich cultural scene. The city also hosts major events including the Busan International Film Festival, making it a popular destination with Malaysian travellers.
