Modest fashion has grown more exciting in recent years, with local designers launching practical products that give customers creative self-styling licence.

Hijab trend is no exception – there are now countless options when it comes to fabrics, sizes and prints, allowing for various ways to style a headscarf.

From intricate patterns to timeless classics, hijab trends are constantly evolving as Malaysian fashionistas and designers set the tone for the most popular styles today.

Bold prints

Solid hues are a safe option for day-to-day dressing, but prints are a subtle way to add some glamour into your wardrobe.

From delicate florals in pastel hues to geometric prints with a vintage vibe, the sky’s the limit when it comes to exciting prints to brighten up your day.

Among the newest hijab offerings to hit the market is the Ezzati Amira x Poplook collection, created in the signature style of its namesake designer.

Ezzati’s love for bold prints, modern silhouettes and hints of East Asian influence were an important part of the conceptualisation of this collection, which was based on the idea of the ever-changing journey of a woman in every stage of her life.

Steeped in tradition

While many are happy to embrace contemporary trends, hijabistas often show their appreciation for culture through their love for traditional prints.

From Middle Eastern geometric patterns to the batik prints of South-East Asia, many a headscarf are designed with culture in mind.

TudungPeople’s Nusantara collection (as seen on the cover) was created with preserving heritage in mind through prints which feature delicate floral and traditional elements.

Crafted in smooth satin silk, the look of each piece has a calming effect, using soothing shades of lavender, beige, peach, light green and more.

Cute collaborations

The world of fashion has no shortage of tie-ins between brands and designers with renowned personalities – both living, breathing specimens and fictional characters of the much-loved variety.

In an ever-changing industry, it’s important for designers to stay on the lookout for opportunities to expand and to reach new audiences, and collaborations are a great way to broaden their horizons.

When it comes to limited and capsule collections, brands like Duck lead the charge, with numerous tie-ins with movie franchises and more, including their latest offering, Barbie The Movie x Duck limited edition collection.

Attention to detail was key in this collection as the design team worked for a total of 400 hours to interpret the world of Barbie into the scarves.

Another name that recently debuted an exciting limited edition collection is Naelofar, who brought the dazzling design motifs of the world of Disney’s Aladdin to life in their Disney x Naelofar Aladdin collection.

Comfortable chic

Perhaps one of the most important fashion trends of today is items that are wearable for long periods of time, and comfortable to boot.

In this hot weather, having options that won’t irritate your skin, scalp, or cause you to sweat profusely is sometimes more important than how you look.

Umma’s Azalea Printed Cotton Voile Square collection was crafted to evoke a sense of grace and feminity, made from premium cotton voile material.

Made to be easy to style, the fabric’s smooth texture also adds a touch of sophistication, its flower petals print crafted to look like they are swaying in the breeze as the wearer moves. That extra something

Instant headscarves require no pins, and while these are a great option for when you’re in a hurry with no time for styling, don’t discount hijab accessories just yet.

Scarf accessories like rings, pins and brooches can add a little something to an already elegant look.

Arzu, a brand which makes scarves in gorgeous prints, also offers glittery scarf rings to accessorise your hijab.

They can be used to clip your headscarf at the base of your neck, at the end of the scarf or even for gathering fabric on the side of your head, depending on the look you’re going for.
