The pinky finger deserves to stand out in a fashionably bold manner too

Of all the fingers, the pinky is perhaps the easiest to overlook. Fashion, however, has other plans – at least for now.

While The Odyssey has been making headlines for its cinematic grandeur, one detail has caught the eye of the fashion crowd: Robert Pattinson’s pinky ring.

His character, the villainous Antinous, wears one with the kind of calculated swagger that makes the small accessory surprisingly hard to miss.

Pinky rings have moved in and out of fashion over the decades, picking up different associations along the way.

They have gone from old-money status symbols, in the form of signet designs, to markers of rebellion, with ostentatious bling favoured by rappers.

Frank Sinatra famously wore a pinky ring as part of his signature look.

The legendary crooner was often spotted wearing one bearing the Sinatra family crest.

According to Julien’s auction house, he even commissioned 12 copies to give to close friends and family members.

ASAP Rocky is another frequent wearer of the pinky ring.

Last year, the rap artiste showed off two designs at the Cannes Film Festival.

For a daytime appearance, he wore a diamond ring, while for evening events, he opted for a rubellite design.

He did the same a week earlier at the Met Gala, where he posed and preened for photographers, showing off a huge diamond on his pinky finger.

As fingers go, the index and middle fingers have long been favourites for jewellery.

Then, of course, there is the specifically named ring finger, which carries its own significance as the traditional home of the wedding band (whether on the left or right hand differs from country to country).

The thumb, meanwhile, is more of a trend-driven choice. It became particularly popular in the 1990s as part of the grunge and alternative fashion movements.

There is no specific design reserved for the pinky. Any ring can be worn on the finger, provided it fits.

Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference and how the wearer chooses to use accessories to create or accentuate a distinctive look.

For Pattinson’s character in The Odyssey, the choice is a simple gold seal ring – perhaps fitting for the film’s setting in ancient Greece.

Men, in general, tend to gravitate towards more muted colours and understated designs, which are often perceived as more masculine.

Women, on the other hand, may opt for colourful gemstones or playful motifs to emphasise a feminine aesthetic.

Kylie Jenner’s pinky ring, however, is anything but understated and has become the subject of intense scrutiny. She has posted pictures of the ring on Instagram numerous times.

Alexandra Samit, founder and CEO of Alexandra Beth Fine Jewelry, told Page Six, the gossip site of the New York Post, that the “massive pear-shaped pinky ring looks to be at least 15 carats and (worth) well over a million dollars”.

There has even been speculation that the ring is actually an engagement ring from actor Timothee Chalamet, worn on her pinky as a decoy to deflect attention from the couple’s relationship.

In the promotional image for her documentary, released last September, a pinky ring appeared prominently on designer Victoria Beckham’s hand, once again drawing attention to the jewellery choice.

On fashion runways, pinky rings occasionally appear as part of a maximalist styling choice.

Celine’s Spring/Summer 2026 show saw models walking out with multiple rings on their fingers, pinky included.

You could say that is the pinky ring’s appeal. It is small enough to be forgotten, yet distinctive enough to make a strong statement when fashion decides to put it in the spotlight.
