Our new fornightly column called Style Watch takes a look at stylish people. This week we have makeup brand So.lek Cosmetics founder Dahlia Nadirah, who rocks all types of styles, from dressed down to glam-ed up.
My go-to look would be statement T with cut-out jeans, or any jeans really! I live in my Tees. The sleeves have to be folded.
I styled them with jeans, skirts, sarong.. everything. Paired it with my big hoop earrings and I’m good to go!
Most important beauty item is my Gincu (or lipcream) either in shade Anting or Erhu. It’s multi purpose so I can use it on lips, cheeks and as eyeshadow!
Earrings, I have a few in my bags just in case. I believe earrings help to transform your look!
Lashes! I don’t need foundation or powder if I have my lashes curled, and lip volumiser.. I have super dry lips so this is super important!
To be honest not much. If anything, I would wear things that I usually would keep for special events but this pandemic has taught me to just do it, don’t wait. So if I feel like wearing a dress even when I work from home, I would wear the dress.
I have six:
My late grandma, she’s amazing and so stylish. Everything has to match from head-to-toe and she would never start the day without her make-up on! Even to go to bed, she would wear a lip-tint or something. So amazing how much effort she put in but still looking effortless!
My mum. My mum is so elegant. She was more daring when I was growing up. Like with her mini skirts, bare-back tops or overalls. Now she looks so good in her jeans and blouses. Even in her kurung, she would look very stylish.
Leandra Cohen. I love how she mixed her style with updated trends and something vintage that represents her. No one dresses like her, confidently. And I love everything she puts on! My no.1 style icon cos she styles everything on her own!
Mira Duma. I love her the most during her Buro-days, not so much pre Buro or now in her Pangaia sweats. I mean I love sweats but I miss seeing her getting all dressed up. We need Duma during her buro-days!
Hailey Bieber. Yep, I said it. This girl looks so good in everything! I love when she wears her oversized Balenciaga coat and pairs it with Nike sneakers. Or when she donned the off-white wedding gown. Even when she wears her Vetements sweatshirt and tights.
Camelia. The most effortless and stylish Malaysian. No one else comes close.
Personally, I would always dress up from down to up. Meaning every morning I would choose what shoes to wear then dress accordingly. Also, usually I would already think of the outfits for the week on say, on Sunday night. So that I know which look I’m set for. This helped me so much as I am a mother of three and always on-the-go.
Always accessorise your look if you feel off or not in the mood. Play around, experiment and always always have something that represents your style.
Trends are good, but not everyone looks good with trends, so always have something in your daily outfit that is you.
