When the weather is good, there are more opportunities to enjoy being outdoors with your pet, including outdoor dining. (In Malaysia, some eateries and areas are pet-friendly.)

If you’re bringing your pup along while out to dinner or weekend brunch, keep these tips in mind to ensure the best time for you and your dog.

Stay hydrated

Outdoor dining is a popular option during the summer months.

The season is also the time that temperatures can climb high, especially while sitting in the sun for an extended period.

Always make sure your dog stays hydrated by bringing a collapsible bowl or doggie dish from home to have water on hand. If your pup starts panting heavily, it’s time to head home.

Do a once over

As you find your seats and settle at your table, scan your surroundings for anything that could be a potential hazard to your dog while you’re dining.

Look under the table and chairs to ensure there’s nothing that your pup can chomp on.

Certain fatty foods can cause pancreatitis or other health issues, and foods like chocolate or raisins are always dangerous to dogs.

Bring a toy

Catching up with friends or family over a meal is a wonderful time, but keep in mind that your dog may get antsy quickly, especially if under the table or on a short leash.

Bring something entertaining for your pup to focus on during the meal, like an interactive toy or various goodies.

Keep your dog in mind

Although it might be easier to bring your dog with you while you’re out, always make the right decision for your pup.

If your dog gets easily stressed or anxious in busy environments, it’s best to keep them at home.
