Starchild: Why Malaysian kids love learning new things in school

Koh Li Ern, 12

There are many subjects that we learn in school, ranging from English, Maths to Art. Which is your favourite subject?

Do you like Maths because you get to learn different forms of calculation using methods like subtraction, division and multiplication?

We are sure many students enjoy Science. Science helps students understand the world around them. Every day, they get to learn about amazing things like planets, animals, plants and even tiny insects.

Some students might prefer Art because they get to explore their creative streak. They enjoy coming up with fun arts and craft activities and expressing their ideas through colours and designs.

We received overwhelming responses from Starchild readers on the topic, My favourite subject. We will run the second batch of letters next week.

Muhammad Anas Mohd Khairul Nizam, 12, says: “Maths helps me think carefully and make smart choices. I know some people find Maths hard, but I enjoy the challenge. It makes me feel confident and clever. I hope I can use Maths when I grow up to solve big problems and help people. I hope to be an accountant when I am older.”

“My favourite subject is Art. I enjoy mixing colours and doing crafts. I find it fun because I can become more creative and explore my talents. I get to learn more about the beauty of art through simple shapes, varied sketching styles, and the use of paint to enhance the artwork,” says Koh Li Ern, 12.
