When entrepreneur Dina Sallehudin saw photos of her tailor's home that was damaged by the floods late last year, she was close to tears.

The floodwaters which almost submerged the house had destroyed his three sewing machines, the source of his livelihood. Also gone were rolls of curtain fabric which Ismail had stored in the small house he shared with four others.

Ismail is a Pakistani migrant who, like most other migrants, came to Malaysia to earn enough to support his family back home.

The pandemic halted a lot of his work with a gardening services company but he found tailoring as another way to sustain himself and his family. And then the floods hit and proved to be yet another setback.
