Celebrity couple Lisa Surihani and Yusry Abdul Halim’s Hari Raya celebration will be a modest affair this year.
“For some reason, this year, we’ve been very laidback about our preparation for Hari Raya. For instance, every year, we usually order a set of Raya clothes for the family,” Lisa talks about her Raya plans during a buka puasa event last week.
“This year, I thought, ‘Why don’t we just recycle the clothes we’ve worn from previous years?’ ”
Yusry, nodding in agreement, adds: “I’ve actually been telling her for a while now that we don’t have to make new Raya clothes. We have a lot of them already so let’s just wear them again.”
The couple, who have two kids Yahaira Leanne, four, and Yusof Leonne, two, will be spending Syawal at their home in Kuala Lumpur this year.
“My mum lives with us and my mum-in-law lives just next door. So we are with each other already,” the 33-year-old actress offers.

Asked if Lisa’s recent trip to Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, has anything to do with the upcoming low-key celebration, she responds:
“The trip had quite an impact on me. It put things into perspective but I don’t know if it was solely that reason.
“Perhaps it was more like a domino effect because I came back from the trip in early April and then Ramadan came by a month later.”
The Unicef Malaysia ambassador made a three-day visit to the Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar to report to Malaysians whether their donations were bringing relief to the children there.
“When I was there, I told myself not to cry because I had to focus on what I had to do. But when I came back, my husband just asked me a few questions about the trip, and as I was answering, I bawled,” she shares.
“You have to see with your own eyes how big this humanitarian crisis is. It settles one million refugees. You have to allow for that to sink in.”
